30th October 2015

CEPA Director Charles Groom recently represented CEPA at the 26th European Regional Conference of the International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) in Montpellier, France.

Charles participated in the interactive workshop on the use of public-private partnerships in irrigation by presenting the case of the Zambia Irrigation Development and Support Project (IDSP) for which CEPA is the Transaction Advisor (see project description), as well as moderating a roundtable discussion on “Private Perspectives: What are the typical conditions that the private sector looks at when entering into a PPP”.

Further, the keynote address for the event was given by a representative from the World Bank Group and was informed in part by an assignment CEPA completed in 2014 on the major issues related to the sustainable financing, structuring and implementation of irrigation schemes especially in developing countries, and the role the private sector can play in mitigating these issues. A summary of this work can be found here.
