31st October 2014The Journal for Competition and Regulation in Network Industries (CRNI) has published an article by CEPA's Daniel Wagner and Ian Alexander on "Competitiveness in the UK Energy and Telecommunication markets".
The article asks why the competitiveness in the retail markets for telecom and energy are perceived so differently despite their parallel history of privatisation and very similar key statistics. The authors look for systemic and regulatory decisions that could explain the diverging developments. From this comparison they derive regulatory insights that could be transferred from the telecom sector to the energy markets.
A preliminary version of this research paper was presented at the 3rd Conference on the Regulation of Infrastructures at the Florence School of Regulation in June 2014.
