10th July 2018Today, the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) has published its first National Infrastructure Assessment for the United Kingdom, which makes recommendations for how the identified infrastructure needs and priorities of the country should be addressed.
CEPA was pleased to support the NIC having been commissioned in 2017 to undertake research into the strategic financing choices made by the private sector when investing in UK infrastructure and the role public funding and financing interventions can play in facilitating greater private investment. CEPA's review found that in the current market there is no shortage in availability of finance for infrastructure projects, but there is a clear role for government to play in securing private finance (for example, in mitigating risks which the market will not bear efficiently).
The National Infrastructure Assessment 2018 is available to download. It directly references CEPA’s work, with the Funding and Financing chapter drawing heavily on CEPA’s analysis, as provided in the three reports:
- Review of infrastructure financing markets
- Infrastructure finance market analysis
- UK infrastructure pipeline analysis
