Ireland’s energy security package to 2030
One of the critical challenges facing policy makers is how to deliver the necessary transformation of energy systems while maintaining security of energy supply and protecting businesses and consumers. CEPA is proud to have supported the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) with a range of technical analysis that underpins Ireland’s Energy Security Package to 2030.
Using a pan-European electricity market model and global gas market model, we tested the resilience of Ireland’s electricity and natural gas systems to a range of future demand and supply shocks, as well as the impact of a range of policy mitigation measures. Our analysis appraised the impacts of developing new critical gas infrastructure in Ireland as well as the security of supply benefits that can be derived by Ireland's delivery of increased renewable energy generation, increased electricity interconnection, by developing new indigenous biomethane and hydrogen production, and by unlocking increased demand-side participation.
